Throwing taster session 

Learn and develop your throwing skills in a 1-2-1 lesson, or bring a friend and have a go together!


We will show you the steps of throwing a pot on the potters wheel from start to finish. Learn about centering, opening out, pulling the walls, and cleaning up your pots. By the end of the session you will have a small collection of thrown pieces to be glazed and fired by us ready for you to collect and take home approx 4 weeks later. 


Open to all skill levels 

1-2-1 or up to 2 people

Limit of 3 pottery pieces per person to be fired 

Bookable as 2 or 3 hour sessions

Choose from morning sessions starting at 10am & afternoon sessions starting at 2pm, Saturday - Sunday. 

£30 per person per hour (of which 1/3rd of overall cost is a non-refundable deposit) 



Group pottery session

Mixed hand-building & throwing workshop for 3+ people, perfect for families, friend groups, and team events. 


In this creative session introducing you to working with clay we will show you how to construct, pinch, join, and shape hand-built pottery. You will be working by hand with clay to create playful pieces (forms could include mugs, bowls, jugs, vessels, dishes & tiles), adding colour by painting with clay slips and decorating with texture tools. There will be an opportunity to learn the steps needed to make a pot on the wheel, and have a go at making a thrown pot. 

By the end of the session you will have experience with a range of different pottery techniques and have a small collection of pottery pieces to be glazed and fired by us ready for you to collect and take home approx 4 weeks later.

6 week throwing course 

In this in-depth course you will get to grips with throwing on the potters wheel. Learn and practice centering, opening out, pulling the walls, and cleaning up your pots. We will show you how to prepare clay, use throwing tools, and work on troubleshooting and learning to avoid common technical problems. In the final week of the course, you will be able to glaze your own pots ready to go in the kiln. 


Open to all skill levels 

1-2-1 or up to 2 people 

12 hours, spread over six 2hr weekly sessions. Please make sure you can attend every week as we will not issue refunds for missed sessions once the course has started. 

Choose from morning sessions starting at 10am & afternoon sessions starting at 2pm, Saturday - Sunday. 

£300 per course (£25 per hour) of which £50 is a non-refundable deposit 



6 week hand-building course 

In the first two weeks of the course you will learn a variety of hand-building techniques such as pinch, coil, and slab building. Put your new skills to use in the next three weeks on a hand-building project of your choice. In the final week, you will be able to glaze your own pots ready to go in our kiln. 


Open to all skill levels

12 hours, spread over six 2hr weekly sessions. Please make sure you can attend every week as we will not issue refunds for missed sessions once the course has started.

Glaze Days 

This fun and intensive day session will focus on everything glazes and kilns. Learn about understanding recipes, cones & kilns, firing techniques, making test tiles, and applications of glazes. 


Sunday 14 July 

£120 per person (of which 1/3rd is a non-refundable deposit)
Lunch and tea & coffee will be provided.

Itinerary 

10am - 12pm, 'Introduction to Glazing' talk with questions and discussion throughout. This will cover structure of glazes, understanding recipes, adjusting glazes, cones & kilns, firing techniques, and studio health & safety. 


12pm - 1pm, Lunch 


1pm -3pm, Demonstrations and applying glazes. Learn how to make your own test tiles and have a go at applying, layering and combining our cone 10 reduction firing glazes to make your own cross blends. 


Aprons will be provided for the hands-on afternoon. You will not be working with glaze in powder form, we will pre-prepare our selection of glazes, but how to do so will be covered in the session. 


Suitable for all, but especially those with some pottery experience who wish to explore ceramics further.

Important Workshop Information 

Working with clay can be very messy, we will supply aprons but suggest wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting mucky. We also recommend that you remove jewellery and tie long hair back. 

We will always take great care when firing your pots, but we cannot be held responsible for any work cracks or gets damaged inside the kiln. This is something that is out of our control. 

We are not responsible for how you use your pots once they have left our workshop. 

Workshops must be paid for in full two weeks before your session or course begins. All deposits (1/3rd of total payment) are non-refundable in the event of a cancellation. 

If you need to rearrange your workshop for another date you can rebook once. If you cancel your rebooked session no reimbursement will be offered. 

Redbraes is a functioning pottery so it is very important that you follow our safety instructions when working in our studio and using our equipment. You will be required to fill out a registration form prior to or at the start of your workshop.

We aim to have your pots ready to collect within 3 weeks of your workshop. Once you have been notified that your work is ready we will hold it for 8 weeks before disposing of it. Contact is if you are unable to pick up your work within the 8 weeks.
